Welcome To Central Connect

Nau mai haere mai.

Central Connect has been based in Waipukurau, the heart of Central Hawkes Bay, for over 25 years.  We provide high quality social work support, counselling, psychotherapy and support group services to our community.

We have a dedicated team of qualified and registered professionals available to work with you.

At Central Connect Whare Manaaki we recognise that life can be stressful and challenging at times.

When life gets too tough or you are facing difficulties and changes in your life, we can help.  We provide a range of counselling services such as; grief and loss, child counselling, post crisis/trauma and family violence counselling.  We are also a family violence support provider, and our social worker has a special interest in family violence.  Support groups for people experiencing depression are run out of our offices at the Heartland Services building every Friday.

Reaching out and asking for support can be daunting and challenging.  Accepting support will be an empowering and rewarding experience when life is getting you down.

All our services are free of charge.

How will we support you?

Social workers and counsellors work with respect for their clients, their values, their beliefs, their uniqueness and their right to self determination.  Over time the non-judgemental and accepting nature of their interventions makes it possible to face painful experiences and take people beyond where they can go by themselves.

For people experiencing depression a support group lead by a highly qualified clinical social worker offers support and education about depression.  All our services are totally confidential.

Working towards a thriving, healthy community in a fair and just society.

Providing quality support and counselling to the Central Hawkes Bay community

Central Connect bases the professional relationship between client and agency on mutual respect, on honouring the dignity of every human being, has a strong focus on best outcome and honours the Treaty of Waitangi.

Originally called CHB Support Centre, the organisation was established in 1989 when social workers from the Hospital Board and Social Welfare identified gaps in social services that their social workers could not help with.  A public meeting was called to see if a volunteer group could be established to offer support to those in need, including a telephone crisis line.

A drop in centre was established in Northumberland Street and the Hospital and Social Welfare social workers provided training to the volunteers.  The first crisis phone line started in January 1990.

Our organization has changed greatly over the years now providing many different services.

Central Connect is part of a collaborative with other service providers in the Central Hawkes Bay
